Mahembe washing station was built by Justin Musabyiama on his father’s coffee plantation in 2008, coming up fourth in the Rwandan Cup of Excellence Competition in his first year of full operation (2012). Justin works with regional smallholders and, farms 8ha of his own coffee.

Justin is in charge of operations including working to improve quality, as well as making organic fertiliser from the coffee pulp.

In general Burundian coffees have a very complex sweetness when processed right, and the coffee coming from Shembati are a fine example: the Shembati washing station is quite unique in Burundi, the team has massive amounts of dedication to producing and processing quality coffee.
